Rendition (2007)
4/5
The cast was excellent and the storyline a gripping one - I only wished they had delved a little deeper. I felt that the characters and the issue were set up well, but not followed through with. I found the film's resolution somewhat anti-climatic. There was, however, one unforgettable and unexpected moment that was so moving.

Lars and the Real Girl (2007)
5/5
Lars and the Real Girl was funny and moving, at the same time. Ryan Gosling is fantastic as Lars - he touches our hearts. The film is beautifully shot and the cast is perfect. Also, if you're wondering, the movie is very, let's say, 'clean' - remember, it's only rated PG-13. It's about people, and love. I definitely recommend it!

Jamie Bell is brilliant. Inspirational, touching, and nearly brought me to tears! The film never even bordered on cheesyness; it was completely real, never held back. There is so much emotion in this film, and the historical setting provides a background for an unforgettable story.

I was pretty indifferent about seeing this movie, and while the essential idea of the movie is not uncommon, the animation is fantastic and the cast was fantastic (although I didn't even realize who they were, except for Jack Black, until the credits!). I really liked the messages the movie sent. It had its funny moments, but mostly its just inspirational.

Gone Baby Gone (2007)
4.5/5
Ben Affleck makes a solid directorial debut, and his brother Casey Affleck does an excellent job as the starring character - I'll definitely be looking for more of his work in the future. A brilliant cast overall, really. Also, the Boston background shots were beautiful. Last but not least, the storyline was excellent. At its end, you're left with an incredibly difficult, thought provoking question.

King Kong (2005)
3.5/5
To be honest, I haven't seen the original and didn't know the plot going in. I actually enjoyed the first part, before the ship leaves - it really attached me to the characters, especially Ann. I assumed it would be a Jack/Ann love story, but I was wrong. The cast was fantastic, even Jack Black played his part perfectly (I'm not a big fan of his). All the bugs and ickyness grossed me out and seemed a tad unnecessary. After the second hour, the film just dragged on for me, but maybe that's just because I was not happy with the essential Ann/Kong (love?!) story that developed. I really liked Captain Englehorn and Jimmy, although I felt Jimmy's storyline was left without closure and thus, seemed unnecessary altogether. Nevertheless, Jamie Bell was the highlight of the film for me. Colin Hanks was wonderful as well. The visual effects were great as well; I guess its more that this is just not my kind of movie.

The trailer looked promising, but I found that the film did not live up to my expectations. I tried to like Kate, but her character was bland. I never felt any real emotion for the tragedy. However, Abigail Breslin's performance was excellent, as usual - touching and I really felt for her. Aaron Eckhart was wonderful at portraying his charming character as well, but I did not find the relationship well developed at well. Also, this is not a romantic comedy, more of a half-romantic, half-family drama.

While more people have seen or heard of Sixteen Candles, I personally find Pretty in Pink to have more substance. Molly Ringwald shines again in this film about class divisions and young love. Sure, the ending was controversial, but I thought it was just right. There are powerful moments in this film that really make the film; Molly's talent is really displayed with those unforgettable shows of emotions (like anger).

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
5/5
10 Things is one of the best teen/high school movies ever. With a good number of well-developed characters and a talented cast, the film is hilarious and the plot is well executed. Kat is a unique character in a genre where stereotypes are common. Even the minor characters are valuable assets to the storyline. I've watched this film so many times; it just never gets old.

I've actually read the book the movie is based on, and the movie definitely does it justice. The very talented Natalie Portman portrays main character Novalee wonderfully. The story seems simple, but a lot can happen in a small town, and there are some powerful moments in this heartwarming movie.

I watched this movie for one reason, and one reason only: James McAvoy. And his performance was brilliant, heartwrenching, and completely worth it. However, I watched this movie completely unaware of the storyline and I have to warn you, don't expect an easy fairytale happily ever after. Also, I'm not so sure Anne Hathaway was the best choice for Jane - her British accent is questionable. I'd rather watch Pride & Prejudice again over this film.

So I fully expected this to be your typical cheesy, feel-good family movie. Boy, was I wrong. You'd think its about a sweet little girl finally getting to know her father, but this sweet little girl is actually pretty manipulative. For the first hour, I was pretty much indifferent to both the main characters. However, it turned out that I was wrong about the movie. The second hour (or last half hour, really) was much better. Now if only the first hour had been as good.

Charlie Bartlett (2007)
4.5/5
When it comes to movies, I believe a lot to be possible. Which is why I wasn't thinking this movie was unrealistic as I watched it. Sure, Charlie was eccentric - but there are eccentric people out there. I felt the essential message of this movie was that we're all just human. Anyways, as the starring character, Anton Yelchin is brilliant and is a big part of why I loved this movie. His performance alone makes it worth watching. However, don't overlook Robert Downey, Jr., Hope Davis, Kat Dennings, and surprisingly, Tyler Hilton. The movie was entertaining and hilarious, and Anton Yelchin's charm was irresistable.

While I have not read the book, Pride & Prejudice was brilliant as a film alone. The cinematography is stunning, the settings were captured in wonderful glows of light. The cast was brilliant.

Can't Buy Me Love (1987)
4.5/5
This film makes me wonder why Patrick Dempsey wasn't famous before landing the role of McDreamy. Can't Buy Me Love shows Dempsey in a much livelier role as Ronald Miller, a geek who just wants to be popular. Lots of laughs, and a great ending. (Love Don't Cost A Thing is a horrible remake of this film.)

27 Dresses (2008)
3.5/5
As far as romantic comedies go, this one is alright. At times, some of the characters are annoying and not at all likable (and lack a little development), but Katherine Heigl is a good actress and plays the main character well. However, its James Marsden that really saves this movie. Charming and handsome, what's not to like?
