To celebrate the return to publication of the Berserk manga, spectacular fan art envisions Guts as a character from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
In dazzling fan art celebrating manga’s surprising return Berserkdigital artist Ark Nemesis reimagines Gut’s iconic Berserker armor in the captivating style of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
The favorite cult manga Berserk tells the story of orphan Guts and his rise through the “live or die” world of mercenaries to become one of the world’s greatest warriors. Along the way, he meets and befriends the mercenary leader Griffith and his lieutenant Casca. The trio are able to achieve incredible success until Guts decides to pursue his own dreams. When he returns, he finds that a lot has changed and Guts is forced to deal with the fallout. After its first publication in 1989, Berserk quickly developed a cult following, even with creator Kentaro Miura’s irregular posting. Then suddenly, during a break, the news of Miura’s death in 2021 shocked fans in many ways and left readers wondering if the story would ever end as originally planned. Even more surprising was the announcement made earlier this month by its publishers that six new chapters of the Berserk the manga would be published from the end of June.
In a publication of June 9, 2022 on his Twitter account, the artist Ark Nemesis tweeted a jaw-dropping rendition of Guts in Berserker armor in “JoJo style.” The JoJo style, which Ark Nemesis says is their favorite way of art, refers to the style of drawing made famous in the manga. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. As Berserk, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a hugely popular and long-running manga that has also achieved its own massively intense cult following. The style created by JojoHirohiko Araki’s creator, has evolved over the manga’s three decades of publication, but is also clearly identifiable.
Of the variety of unique JoJo style elements that Ark Nemesis replicates perfectly, perhaps the most notable in the Guts image is Araki’s facial structure. This style is recognizable by its large eyes, stronger jaws, pout, round lips and sideways glances. These are all perfectly represented in the image of Ark Nemesis with the normally “hardened” Guts face given a subtle and downright appealing appearance.
Another telling aspect of Araki’s art is his focus on fashion. Gut’s Berserker Armor is a massively fearsome battle outfit that taps into the wearer’s inner demons to produce a near unstoppable force of destruction. Art Nemesis, however, uses the JoJo style to soften the toughest Berserk aspects by first changing its color from charcoal black to a more palatable yellow. The image also matches the armor with a silk fluffy scarf of different shades of green. It’s the kind of accessory you’d think you’d find on a mannequin rather than on a slayer. However, in perfect JoJo style, he manages to achieve his goal of blending Berserkhardness with the softer notes of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
