Londoners delighted to spot the Goodyear airship over London landmarks such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the Shard

Londoners were delighted today after spotting the return of the Goodyear airship to the skies of London on Saturday May 14. The iconic airship cruised above some of the city’s incredible sights such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the Shard.

Although it is common to spot blimps at sporting events in the US, they are not common here in London. The Goodyear Blimp is currently in the UK filming aerial views of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on May 14-15.

The Goodyear Airship is a semi-rigid Zeppelin NT airship that is 75m long and has a top speed of 78mph. The airship carries two pilots and can accommodate up to 14 passengers while cruising at its ideal height of 300m.

Many Londoners have taken to social media to share their sightings of the iconic airship in the sky.

A delighted Londoner shared an image on Twitter and said: “Can’t remember the last time I saw a #goodyear airship over London. Or any airship at all. A real treat on this surprisingly bright spring day.”

Another tweeted: ‘Timed my morning walk well and spotted an airship en route to London.’

A third Londoner said: “Wow! Just saw the Goodyear Blimp flyover at Eltham SE London #GoodyearBlimp.”

Goodyear’s plane appeared in the UK last year, which was the first time in over a decade. In addition to passing through London, Goodyear took the airship to Europe for a tour.

According to MetroSonia Leneveu, Goodyear Consumer Europe Marketing Director, said: “This year, Goodyear will further build on its heritage and heritage with the iconic Goodyear airship once again flying over Europe.

“The tour will cover major motorsport events, as well as other cities, allowing residents to see the airship in the sky above famous European sites.

“In 2022, flights will take place in Belgium, the UK, Germany, France and Italy, in the spirit of going further from Goodyear.”
