The Disney conglomerate has many franchises under its umbrella, including the colorful collection of Marvel Comics superheroes. Disney adapted the comic book characters into what is now known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, captivating fans with record box office numbers. The heroes and villains of Disney’s tales also have a loyal following. When you mix the two franchises with some fan art, the magic can happen. This is the case when an artist on Instagram shared a collection of Marvel heroes imagined as Disney villains.
The self-taught artist Anastasia ivanova shared six pieces of art on Instagram, featuring Scarlet Witch, Falcon / Captain America, Winter Soldier, Agatha Harkness and Doctor Strange. What’s amazing about the art is the precision with which Ivanova portrays each character as her Disney counterpart. The stars of the big screen and streaming series are recognizable, but still bring every Disney villain to life in new and unique ways.
First off, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch as Maleficent. Ivanova even has a character dashboard to frame every creation after it’s published. After Scarlet Witch / Maleficent are Dr. Facilier, Hades, Captain Hook, Jafar, and Mother Gothel. Scarlet Witch wears the horns and crows of Maleficent’s forehead as Wanda Maximoff’s hexagonal magic burns in the background.
Sam Wilson, the former Falcon and now Captain America of the MCU is Dr. Facilier of The princess and the Frog Fame. Anthony Mackie brings the voodoo doctor to life in a purple jacket and black top hat. He even winks at the audience with his left eye.
Sam Wilson’s co-star Bucky Barnes in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier then follows as the appropriate Captain Hook. Both characters are missing limbs, with the artist replacing Bucky’s Vibranium arm with a hook for the titular captain. Sebastian Stan is also back growing his hair to match the Captain Hook cape and sword.
Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness stars as Mother Gothel Tangled. It takes a witch to know a witch, and the two seem to match perfectly. Agatha also wears Mother Gothel’s purple dress with matching black hair. Ironically, Marvel Studios recently announced Agatha: House of Harkness, a WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn.
The accomplice Loki, god of mischief is perfectly interpreted as Hades, god of the underworld of Hercules Animation Film. “Of course Hades is Loki! That’s why I started all of this,” Ivanova reveals. Tom Hiddleston’s hair is engulfed in blue flames and also has the gray skin of the god. You have to believe that Loki would fit in well with Hades, because it takes a god to know a god.
Last but not least is Aladdin’s Jafar, mixed in with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme still wields the Eye of Agamotto / Time Stone, but is now joined by Jafar’s serpent and parrot by his side. “I thought these two characters were the closest to each other in terms of skill, arrogance and of course goatee,” Ivanova added.
