State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has written to heads of its telecommunications circles to identify sites and associated materials for installing 4G nodes, Financial Expresss reported on Wednesday.

Circle leaders are encouraged to submit details to BSNL Headquarters by December 15 so that action can be taken in a timely manner, as testing will be completed by December 31, 2021.

The state-owned telephone company earlier planned to conclude the trials by Oct.31, 2021.

“The proof of concept should be completed very soon. Immediately thereafter, this office plans to initiate the purchase of 4G equipment through a successful PoC provider, ”BSNL head office said in its letter to heads of telecommunications circles, according to the publication.

BSNL invited an expression of interest in January 2021 for a proof of concept (PoC) for Indian companies interested in participating in its upcoming 4G tender.

As a prelude to rolling out 4G services within a limited time frame, it is important to plan the installation sites for 4G nodes, the phone company said.

“Accordingly, all circles are urged to identify the sites and associated hardware requirements for the installation of 4G nodes,” BSNL said in its communication.

BSNL has given a September 2022 timeline for a pan-Indian deployment of 4G services, with estimated additional revenue of Rs 900 crore in the first year of deployment, said Minister of State (MoS) for Communications Devusinh Chauhan in a written response to Lok Sabha last Wednesday, adding that no proposal was currently under consideration for the divestment of public telecommunications companies BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).
