Star Wars Fan Art Imagines the Bright Side of Anakin Skywalker

A Star Wars fan imagines what Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker would look like if he wasn’t enamored of the dark side and grew old as a Jedi.

A Star wars one fan illustration imagines Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker staying on the side of the Light and aging to be a Jedi. While the original trilogy chronicled the journey of Luke Skywalker’s hero (Mark Hamill), the prequels focused on the origins of his father, Darth Vader. Skywalker’s Patriarch was dubbed the Chosen One, but ultimately fell to the Dark Side due to the interference of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).

Looking back, the prequel trilogy has enriched Star warsglobal tradition. As critical and convoluted as these films are, public perception has softened in recent years, especially in light of the controversies in back-to-back Disney films. Fans began to appreciate George Lucas’ vision for these blockbusters. There are clear general and individual arcs running through all three films, with Anakin’s fall from the Dark Side at its center. Despite a less than ideal execution, the additional context surrounding Darth Vader’s past drastically changed the way people viewed him in the original trilogy. In reality, he is a traumatized man who was so afraid of losing his loved ones that he was easily manipulated by the Sith.

But what if Anakin stayed in the light all the time? What if he deciphered Palpatine’s evil plan and resisted the urge to take what he offered? What if the High Jedi Council paid more attention to his grievances instead of quickly dismissing them? Maybe instead of the all-black armor he wore as Darth Vader, he would look more like how he is portrayed in this Star wars fan art. Looking at the illustration, Anakin’s costume is still somewhat reminiscent of his Darth Vader armor – but in a less bulky, lighter color. Compared to the typical Jedi robe set, this one is more elaborate, with different layers. Still, it’s clear that this is a different version of the character – not the one born at the end of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith like Palpatine’s right-hand man, and certainly not the villain throughout the original trilogy. Meditating on the ramifications of this imagined scenario, it’s safe to say that if Anakin hadn’t moved away from the Jedi, Star wars would be very different from what it is now.

Getting back to what’s canon now, Anakin’s story will continue in the next Obi wan kenobi series. This will chronicle a part of his arc that has yet to be explored in Star wars. It will be interesting to see if this will significantly change what is known about his story, especially when it comes to his dynamic with his former friend and mentor.
