This is a D’Moi Hodge fan page

My D’Me Hodge fandom started before that HUGE Tigers win (105-80 in case you missed it), I swear. Before each game, Rock M’s own Sammy Stava (AKA my links lifesaver) chooses a very worthy player to focus on to tweet “so-and-so plays today”.

Ahead of Tuesday’s whistleblower, he tweeted:

My answer was this… LONG BEFORE THIS GAME BEGAN, PEOPLE. Note this time.

Did my tweet lead to this 30 point, 7 rebound outing for D’Moi Hodge? Based on Matthew J. Harriswe should have expected something like this, given what Hodge has accomplished in the Horizon League.

But that’s not the point. I am naturally wondering, am I some kind of Nostradamus? A medium ? A psycopath ? Ha… maybe. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket? Bet big on the Tigers? The Rock M Slack channel was abuzz towards the end of the game, after all, asking how much money we were going to put on Mizzou to win the “ship”. Me: None. Not a player. Others: I will never tell.

Now, readers, I’m nothing if not completely reasonable 100% of the time, so I’m willing to share credit for Hodge’s performance, as the graphics department also played a part in this twist of fate. Look who they put on the game program!! (Disregard the beer part, I was happy to find the good stuff)

So not only did the game show featuring D’Moi OBVIOUSLY help lead to his 30 point night, but also the game that Benny (Sternberg) was on the game show was the day he hit that shot in half court. These are just the facts, friends.

Anyway, y’all, it’s all fun and games here because Mizzou is doing this thing where they’re playing a hugely entertaining brand of basketball. Does that mean it will always fall into place? Not if you allow 26 fouls (Tuesday night) to better teams or allow your opponents to score 5 million threes (see: Penn, Southern Indiana). But for now, let’s enjoy the shit Kansas out of it, right? We have fun, we thrive, we witness a thrilling attack. This team seems to really like each other. When Hodge reached that 30 spot, the crowd erupted and his teammates went WILD. Gates immediately called a time out and his teammates all rushed in to give hugs and congratulations. It was the cutest and most comforting thing.

Here are some examples for my fan page:

Is it fast forward and everyone is at normal speed? How did he do that?

Difficult crowd, Coach. To joke. Gates never wants to go too high on the events that have unfolded. It is very balanced.

D’Moi wasn’t the only great performance fans saw on Tuesday, however. I don’t know if you’ve heard of him, but this guy from Isiaih Mosley is pretty, pretty good. He played 23 minutes, by the way.

When I say my jaw was on the floor….

And don’t forget Tre Gomillion, the ultimate glue guy. Matt and Sam discussed it on the pod, and I’ve been reading a lot lately about everything he brings to the table. Tre is quite elastic…

Here’s some more goodness. I can’t get enough.

Five Tigers scored in double figures (KB, D’Moi, Tre, Sean East II and Isiaih), and three others had 5-7 points (Noah, Honor, Dre). Overall, the team shot a truly astonishing 59.7% from the floor. Everyone on the team played, even Majak (who immediately fouled SIUE), Ronnie (!!!), lil drf Jackson, Ben and Mo. Only Majak (2 min), Sternberg (2 min) and François (1 min) were held scoreless. I should also mention that things got a bit loose in terms of ball handling and defensively in the final minutes with a win firmly in hand otherwise the score differential would have been even wider and the overall stats would have been better. .

Speaking of stats, let’s check KenPom’s old numbers, shall we?

After the big win, the Tigers moved up 2 places (I think they were 52 when I checked on Sunday?) in KP to no. 50 and ahead of LSU (51). Worth noting, and Sam will probably cover this in Study Hall, but they’re now nope. 20 nationally in adjusted offense (111.1), just ahead of Alabama (111.0) and just behind Auburn (111.5). In defense… well, let’s ignore that for now… In Adjusted Tempo they sit at no 40 nationally (73.4), front everybody but Alabama (7th at 75.3).

It’ll be fine, Pig. That should do.

On to the links!

This is my last links post of the week, as the Steger parents are coming to town. My imminent absence is a welcome phrase for some of you, I’m sure 🙂
